Address is:

304 E 6th st
Austin TX

6th and san jac upstairs from Vice.

Fascination Street is the only underground club on 6th street since Proteus was closed in 1996. The new management, creative and music coordinators are a group former club kids who wish to recreate the vibe from Austins Club scene as it was in the 1990's. When we say dress code, what we mean is... If you are dressed up... whether it be in 12 inch Adidas shelltoe platforms and pants made of bottle caps... maybe a pink beehive wig and a 1930s vintage gown or maybe you dress black on the outside because thats the way you feel on the inside, but your make-up is DUSTED!!! whatever the case may be...you get in free and more than likely your first few drinks will be too. Yes! We want the freaks, the fags, the open minded breeders, the club kids, the ravers, the burners, the dykes, the goths, the bi's, the hookers (OH MY!!).

On Wednesdays we offer the best in New Wave, Post Punk, Industrial, and Classic Acid Music. Thursdays is Breakbeat, Electro, House, and Minimal. On Fridays we bring you the sounds of Speed Garage, Dubstep and Bassline House. Saturdays are a blend of all of the above, and Sundays is our Downtempo, Trip Hop, and Acid Jazz night. Our music is brought to you by DJ Onelove and guest DJ's hand picked from Austins Underground scene.

We also plan hosting other events in the future such as drag performances, neo-clubkid awards, anti war bondage shows, PUMP, and other art showings.

Please stay tuned for our future events.

Calling all poets in Austin, TX!

I've started a tribe, Austin Poetry Guild. Check it out and see what you think. I would like to establish a group of like-minded poets in the Austin area to meet and share experimental poetry once or twice a month. I envision a forum both online and real-world, where we can challenge each other and provide constructive criticism. Before anything is established, there needs to be a level of sincere and dedicated interest. To get an idea of what kind of poetry this forum is for, think Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, Jack Kerouac, Phillip Lamantia, Saul Williams, Ursula Rucker, and e.e. cummings.

The Backyard is closing

Really sad how such a wonderful place can be destroyed by retail shopping.

here's the official press release...DIRECT EVENTS ANNOUNCES FINAL SEASON FORTHE
BACKYARD LIVE OAK AMPHITHEATREAUSTIN, Texas – April 22, 2008 – Tim O’Connor,
owner of Direct Events and the Backyard, announced that the 16th season will be
the final full season for Austin's acclaimed live oak amphitheatre, The
Backyard.“I built the Backyard to produce events in an atmosphere that signifies
Austin. When the venue opened we were in the middle of the Hill Country and it
was a true experience," said Tim O'Connor, President/CEO Direct Events. "The
Shops at The Galleria development that now surrounds the Backyard has taken away
from some of the venue's magic over the last few years.”The Backyard, located at
71 W and RR620, opened it doors in 1993 and has hosted over 1 million patrons
and 400 acts including Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Norah Jones, Beck, Modest
Mouse, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Sheryl Crow, The Gipsy Kings, Lyle
Lovett, Coldplay, Widespread Panic, Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakum, Chris Issak,
Alanis Morissette, Elvis Costello, Smashing Pumpkins, Nickelback and
more.Creating a natural, comfortable, and unique to Austin environment for the
Backyard performers and patrons has been of highest importance to Direct Events
since the venue's opening.“Set in a natural amphitheatre with sturdy live oaks
shading it, the place can be utterly magical on a warm, breezy night, and is a
delightful addition to the Austin Music venue scene. Within it’s confines are
green lawns, fishponds, and a multi-tier patio, and the sound system is far and
away the city’s best, achieving clarity and presence at volumes that are
comfortable to even the most sensitive ears (at a recent Leonard Cohen show, you
could even hear the cicadas chirping as the music played – magical). Right at
birth, it’s a classic Austin venue, and even the short drive out from town adds
to the charm of attending shows there,” said Austin Chronicle, Best Open Air
Music ’93.This may be the final season for the Backyard, but Direct Events is
not closing the door on this live music staple. Direct Events has proposed a
plan to the City of Bee Cave, and is working to secure their approval to develop
a new Backyard in a new location that will not compromise the atmosphere of the
venue."I have had the unique privilege to co-produce, with Direct Events, the
majority of shows that have graced the Backyard stage since its inception. I
have enjoyed the relationship with this facility and it's operator immensely. I
was always proud to be affiliated in some small way with the Backyard. While the
Backyard will soon be its own chapter in Austin musical history, Tim O'Connor is
a visionary, and I am confident that his next facility will be his masterpiece
that we can all be very proud of," stated Bob Roux, Regional President for Live
Nation.

Funkotron Grease Fest 04/04/08 @Lucy's on the square

Funkotron is a psychedelic funk jam band that moves around the various musical landscapes like an eccentric transient with a PhD. Having a home base in San Marcos, Funkotron jumps to the jaded music capital regularly and slides to the nexus of nastiness(Houston) occasionally, floating through San Antonio here and there. The energy levels are high as the feedback loop of pleasure carries improve to tight funk riffs and zany jazz fusion runs. We have two guitar players base drums congas and a keyboard player.

BASSNECTAR w/ DJ Manny & Bigface: A Multimedia Journey

Date & Time: Saturday, March 29, 2008 more on this date
8:00 PM
Location: Antone's
213 W. 5th St.
Austin, TX 78701 view map
More Info: tickets.frontgatetickets.com/choose.php

Bassnectar returns to Austin on Saturday, March 29th, 2008 to bounce the roof off Antone’s with support from locals DJ Manny and BigFace, along with MC Tigre Liu (MC from Austin's Afrofreque)on the mic. With four turntables, 5 projectors, turntable and aerial view cameras, and original video sets by Livid Instruments VJ’s, the show will be a multimedia journey worthy of an early arrival. The music will be loud, and the bass will be kickin’. If you remember last season’s show at the Parish, then you’ll hop over to Frontgate Tickets to grab pre-sales before they are gone. Antone’s is located at 213 W. 5th St. in Austin, TX. This is an all-ages event. Ladies come enjoy the dancefloor cuz the roof will be torn offf!!!!!!!

About Bassnectar:
There are nearly three-hundred and sixty five nights a year, and on one third of them, somewhere across North America, you will find a modern day social mosh pit of hippies, ex-ravers, hipsters, dub reggae heads, Dead-heads, Burning Man freaks, artists, fashion experimentalists, social activists, and hip-hop enthusiasts all packed into one steamy room of grinding, orgiastic expression and musical experimentation known as a bass ritual, or, more precisely, a night with Bassnectar.

Playing at over TWO-hundred and fifty shows a year; to thousands of different people a month; from sold out festivals to overcrowded clubs and warehouses to tight and tiny bars and venues; Bassnectar’s enormous popularity reflects the current hunger for raw substance in modern music and a desire for social integrity inside the party scene.

Love In...

http://www.rovingfestival.com/lovein.shtml

1967 was the summer of love, celebrated by an explosion in art, music and fashion, remembered for the momentum and drive of a generation of youth whose culture remains with us and influences us to this day. Since then, especially after the 1980s (The Reagan Era), modern youth culture has been propogandized to reflect only on the negative aspects of the once spiritually free culture of the '60s. "Tune in, turn on and drop out," and "Make love, not war," have been convoluted into "Just say no," and "The war on terrorism."

Artopium's Love In is a modern recreation of the spirit and renaissance that culminated from the 1960s. With our own style and flare, we will bring you a revival of the free-autonomous zone through liberated body painting, live free-for-all paint walls, daisies and other flowers for your loved one, or a kiss if you don't have one. There will be the acid jazz jam band Audiopium and trance DJ Force Majeure spinning all night, along with a fashion show presented by this generation's most free-spirited clothing designers and fashion stores.

All of this will take place in the one and only Pearl Street Co-op, which is furnished with a swimming pool, sundeck, game room, dance area, and is inhabited by a lot of cool-minded, free-spirited youth ready to bring the feeling and spirit of the '60s back into our own generation.

Male Sexual Enlightenment

Here is a chance to understand what Sexual Yoga is all about.

I'll be attending this weekend workshop at Casa Del Luz, April 4-6th. David Deida and his group are leaders in sexual enlightenment. The direct link is http://www.eliburen.com/. Come check it out!

Living as Freedom
A Weekend Workshop for Men
"A man rediscovers and fine tunes his purpose in solitude, in challenging situations, and in the company of other men who won't settle for his bullshit." — David Deida

Join Eli Buren in a space of creative challenge, honest feedback, and deep inquiry. Explore the physical, mental, and spiritual landscapes of your being. Together with other dedicated men, actively engage your unique gifts and consciously create the path towards what you truly long to live and give in life and love.

This process is held in a strong container of humor, integrity, and great heart. You will be pressed to your edge, offering the opportunity to embody a fuller spectrum of expression as a man. From that freedom, you can bring more awareness and clarity to your life and to the challenges of living moment to moment from a place of real responsibility, love, and authenticity.

Men’s weekends, based on the groundbreaking work of David Deida and other teachers, are a continually evolving process open to both new and experienced participants.

During this weekend, you will:
Discover what it takes to find and live more aligned with your deepest life purpose.
Train in breathing exercises to relax and deepen your awareness.
Learn how to refine and expand your sexual capacity in detail.
Understand the dynamics of sexual polarity and how they influence your intimate life, from attracting the partner you desire to deepening your chosen relationship.
Practice remaining open, living love with integrity and freedom, amidst a wide range of challenges including work, sex, and friendship.
Strengthen the warrior aspect of your being, and learn how to move into action with grace and vulnerable force.
Develop the ability to exercise steady presence during emotional intensity and worldly chaos.
Celebrate what is great, inspect what is outdated, and identify what the next step is in yourself and others.
Warning: This Workshop is not for the faint of heart. If you are satisfied with your habits, tendencies, and closures as they are now, this would not be the best use of your time. If you are ready to be challenged toward outgrowing your past so you can give your best today and tomorrow, then this workshop is for you.

Blessings,

Paul

Call for Art, Art Outside 2008, Austin TX

Calling ALL Artists For The 4th Annual Art Outside Brouhaha! March 6th – 16th 2008.
To take part in AO|08 Go Here- http://www.artoutside.org/

Ladies and gentlemen of the art world, we are seeking any and all creative humans who use their skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others. That is, we are looking for those whose life is art, and everything they do is DIY. We are searching for those who are creating the Hand-Made Nation. We are calling !ALL! make-believers, dreamers and reality re-arrangers. We are searching hi and low for lowbrow-urban-contemporary-pop-surrealism, pop art, op art, hard-edge, lyrical abstraction, post minimalism, which might be interpreted by some to mean that we are looking only for painters, but that is most definitely not the case. For you see, of course, we need masters of typography, sketchers, illustrators, satirical stencilers, screen printing is way cool, and yes, you too, graffiti fools. Least we forget every culture jammer in the hood. Do you manipulate earth/land/sand/plants/junk into art? Then we have a home for you.

Now, we know some of you may be thinking “What about Dadas’ Dadaists, though?” To this we say, but of course we are calling all inspired by DADA- for where would art be without fluxists, productivism, neoplasticism, pittura, metafisica, arbeitsrat and bauhaus. Well, we are looking for all of “you” from then and now, if any of you still are around. And one may wonder… What about the cubists? We say, “But of course.” Conceptualists? Indeed. Installationists? Please! One might ask if we are seeking anything that might fall under postmodernist modernist who are not distracted by abstractionists and other IST’S. Of course there is always impressionism, post-minimalism, pre-contemporaryism, and expressionism. Are you working in symbolism or surrealism or any of the other -isms that we have not yet mentioned? Well come on out. But wait that’s not all, that could not possibly be all this call for ARTE is all about? Well, Dali you’re right,

This call goes out to all kinetic sculptors, fire sculptors, sound artists bending invisible waves, and video projectionists playing with light. We must invite the minds of the poets and their spoken slam voices, along with improv comedians who mimic the true history of time. Or was that the klown? How can we forget about the klowns! Mimes? Performers “performing” art, puppeteers with their puppets, musicians making sounds. Oh, and least we forget outsider artists wanting to be outside.

In short, we invite all the conceivable movements, modes, and theories of art known to wo/man kind. We say to you, the Artisans of the world who wish to unite because the world needs ART, because the world’s not right. It is time, Your window of opportunity is now. Our space is your blank canvas. Your dreams are our inspiration. You and your art are invited to take part in this epic artistic endeavor.

The world may be going to hell… So let’s make some art.

Does anyone know how to be a vendor at the Sat weekly Sunset Valley Farmer's market? http://www.sunsetvalleyfarmersmarket.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=28

I've tried to email and call and haven't received a message back. I would really love to sell but I don't know if I can just show up and pay or if I have to make a reservation.

I have thought about going to Austin Country, Inc. dba Flea Market (no website) on 290 highway but was told to stay south for selling hip / funky kind of clothing.

Anyone know anything about either market? Tips, suggestions or opinions?

Dancers/Performers Needed for Movement Piece for FirstNightAustin (Austin,TX)

We are looking for People who have experience in Viewpoints or would like to learn about Viewpoints. For those interested, Viewpoints is a technique of improvisation that provides a vocabulary for thinking about and acting upon movement and gesture.

The movement is inspired by sound and a video. It is a short piece about immigrants at a processing station lasting about twelve minutes. The piece premieres on December 31st at 9:45 PM and 10:45 PM (So you still have a chance to bring in the New Year!) It is site-specific and is located under the First Street Bridge on the Southside of Auditorium Shores, simply request and we will send you pictures.

Guiding the ensemble is Noel Gaulin from The Humdrum Collective & Odile Nicole del Giudice, creator of Cisne Negro. Rehearsals would be light consisting of five 4-hour meetings with the first rehearsal beginning next week. While this is a not a paid gig, you will be credited for your work.

This event is also highly publicized, last year First Night Austin numbered over 75,000 people in attendance. In other words, many people will see you.
For more information on Austin First Night visit:

NYE: cavepeople and drummers needed

Want to participate in First Night's NYE Celebration?
Want to be nice and warm in furryness while everyone else is freezing?
Want to bang on drums and dance down congress?

Well, have we got an opportunity for you!

The Caveman Collective is searching for fellow bro-magnons and sheanderthals to make a fun, theatrical statement about the evolution from Petroleum to electric powered vehicles.

The short version:
We need:
2-3 puppeteers (think chinese dragon-style)
min. 5 cave people
4 riders
10 drummers

The long version:
Imagine a pack of happy cavepeoples drumming and dancing away while walking down
congress, when suddenly up from behind comes an angry, mean and ugly
truckceratops, fresh from the pre-historic petroleum age. It menaces
and threatens the poor innocent cavepeoples, who scatter about in
fear, and then with sounding trumpets and a speeded 5-mph rush attack
come up our heroes on their fabulous electric trikes, shooting nerf
guns and stabbing foam-tipped spears into the surly beasty from the
oil age, killing it and moving along to lead the cave people back
towards their happy drumming march down congress.

The key here is theatrics, and having some way to animate the
truckeratops. We're thinking more like the chinese dragon dancers, with the
one person up front animating the head, and one or 2 or more persons
animating the legs, body and tail. I could see this happening with as
little as 2 persons.

You'll be invited to exclusive costume-making parties. We'll bribe you with food and booze!
You'll be in a parade!
AND you'll still have time afterwards to make it out to that raging party before midnight!
How can you lose?

looking for a room or housemate situation

I just thought I'd put the word out that I am looking for a new place, preferably a room or housemate situation. I'm tired of paying 475 a month and living alone.

I go to UT full time so I don't want to live in a 24/7 party house. But a little partying is OK

Hey Austin,

I need a place to call home for the rest of October, Nov and Dec. Hopefully in the south (but not too far south) or east/central. I'll be back in town next week sometime if anything pops up. Take a look at my profile for more details about me. I'm a 'working professional', really easy going, friendly, and fun and would love to live with other community-minded folks.

Peace

Hi! If anyone is interested in meeting some really playful people and learning how to Sphereplay / Contact Juggle, we are hosting our third SphereCamp at this park. Every year we get together it just gets better and better... another chance to play and learn from each other. This year we are going to have a bunch of other manipulation arts too, like contact staff and poi, hoops, bellydance and more.

SphereCamp Texas
Austin * November 30 - December2, 2007
McKinney Falls State Park
More info, play session schedule:
www.tryouttoys.com/spherecamp_west.html
More discussion is just starting at:
tribes.tribe.net/sphereplay

They'll be people from all around the US this year and we've lined up some great special guests and play sessions (I just really like avoiding the word "workshop" because it doesn't really describe what we've got going on here). We are really psyched for an awesome time!

Playfully...

who came out and made last night's 1st Thursday Fire & Ice Social at Amy's Super South in Austin such a success! The simple feelings of happiness & cooperation that blanketed the whole show were sweeter than I could have imagined or expected.

I want to extend a personal thanks to the drummers. The drumming last night was absolutely sublime. I heard so many comments from audience & performers alike about the extremely high quality of drumming & the wonderful and very visible synergy between performers & drummers. Folks in the audience mentioned that to me several times & I found myself wanting to hang with the drummers, dancing in the background rather than on stage. The drumming was deeply satisfying beyond words.

Stay tuned for pics...

DJs and a band needed

August 18th brings a unique event to Austin!

Swaparamarama!

At Ruta Maya from 2-8 PM, we're going to have people bring us their clothes to swap with other peoples' clothes. Some of Austin's finest deisgners will be around showing their wares and helping the public use their imaginations and sewing machines to make someone elses crap into a fabulous outfit for themselves!

2-5 will be mostly swapping and creating outfits. We could use some great DJs to provide us with good-feeling groovy music in the background to keep people's energy up.

5:30-6:30ish I'd like to have a live band. People will be finishing their projects, designers will be getting models ready for a show, and we're giving people 1 hour to take a t-shirt or two and hack it into something completely different!

6:30 or 7 we'll start the fashion show portion of the evening. T-shirt hackers, designers, models will be strutting the fashions that they've recycled into fabulousness!
I could probably use a DJ for this to keep the show moving.

SO, if you want to perform or know someone who does, let me know!

Thanks.

***Warning: Jason Coy is a con artist***

I recently discovered that someone had been posing as one of my closest friends for two and a half years but the reality was it was all a con. After hearing of the con that he had been running in Austin for several years we researched and got the facts which contradict the lies told.
For all of you who know Jason Coy you need to be aware of the following so that you are not taken by him like I was...

1. He does not have (and has never had) a brain tumor
2. He holds no degrees (Master's or PHDs)
3. He has never worked in a hospital (or worked since I have known him)
4. He has not paid rent in the entire time I have known him
5. He has run this scam for years and lived off of one woman for 5 years playing off sympathies of his non existent brain tumor

This experience has cost me financially, emotionally, he has turned friends against each other...and I'm still discovering more damage that he has caused. I apologize to anyone that I have introduced him to and any disruption in your lives he has caused.

If you have any questions please contact me at franksuchomel{at}yahoo.com

Here is Mare's email on the matter:

===========================================================================================================
Hello Everyone,
This email is to clear up things, and to inform everyone of my experience and knowledge of Jason Coy.

Jason came into my life in January of 2005. We were introduced by a long time friend, and were told that Jason had been diagnosed with a brain tumour approx. 6 months beforehand.

Jason quickly became apart of our family.

On March 18th of 2005, Jason was having brain surgery to remove the majority of the brain tumor. My daughter, Indi, who just turned 7 at the time, prayed that he would survive the "surgery."

We purchased his ticket and all his camping supplies for Burning Flipside 2005, and introduced him and he immediately integrated himself into the community.

In August of 2005 he claimed he got a job as one of the heads of the pathology department at St David's Hospital off of 32nd and I-35. This was fantastic, because he would now have a job that would utilize his education. To me he claimed he had a PHD in microbiology and a Master's in psychology.

In September of 2005 we learned from Jason that the tumor had returned. his seizures were starting all over again. He was having horrific migraines.

In early November 2005, he said he lost his job at St. David's.

Over the next several months, he claimed to undergo a treatment called gamma knifing, which he received at St. David's. This is a non-evasive treatment that had minimal side-effect compared to other treatments out there.

Finally, in the Spring of 2006 he told us the tumor was gone again after three Gamma radiation treatments.

In the Winter of 2006 the tumor returned. Jason moved in with Doug, our friend in Jan of 2007 under the pretense that he would pay rent when he found a job. Since jason was back on medication for his seizures, he said that he would "easily" be able to get a job and pay rent.

However, before long he reported his tumor was again growing, and he would have to endure multiple gamma knife treatments.

This past Tuesday he informed me that on his walk from Epoch coffee house to the McDonalds off Lamar and Houston Street, he had a seizure in front of the UHaul place, and passed out. He told me that someone called an ambulance and he finally awoke in the ER of Brackenridge hospital around 3 am. I, of course, went immediately to go pick him up from Doug's place and take him for food because he expressed his need for food because he hadn't eaten.

Now....
I want you all to know, that Jason has been my best friend for 2 and a half years. I've spent almost everyday with him. I've held him while he's gone through seizures, I've cried when the tumours would come back. I've laid awake at night wondering what more i can do to help him because he's too skinny, or because he's unhappy, trying to find out how to better his life since i can't cure his tumor.
We've paid his bills, we've bought him a cellphone and minutes on it, we've bought him beer and cigarettes, we've taken him to flipside 2005 and 2007, we gave him money to pay "hospital bills," and rent, and for his "medication," I took him for coffee and food almost everyday for the past 7 months; we've taken him out to eat, we've cooked him food, he even spent Christmas with my parents, sister, kids, and us.

My sister loves him, my parents love him, my daughter loves him, many of you love him.

It was brought to our attention Friday, that jason was lying about many things, even that he has claimed to have a "brain tumor" many times over the past 7 years, has used people many times for a free place to live and for money, and that now, he was conning us. We researched these things, to either disprove the lies being told about him, or to find out the truth.

Believe me when I say that i really didn't want his deceptions to be true.

Through research of independent, non-biased sources I have concluded the following:

Jason Coy has never paid rent since we've known him. (the only rent previous roommates received was by us)
Jason Coy does not have any degrees, Master's or PHDs... (he claimed to others in the past that he had a MD)
Jason Coy never worked at any St. David's Hospital.
Jason Coy never had seizures.
Jason Coy never went to Brackenridge Hospital in an ambulance in the past 30 days.
Jason Coy does not have an amazingly large medical debt (he's claimed between $250K to $1million).
Jason Coy does not have a brain tumor, nor has he ever had a brain tumor.

The research has been done. Frank and I would not have confronted our bestfriend, someone we considered family, unless we had concrete proof of his con.

Tonight, Frank, one of his friends, and Mikety Mike of Wonderlounge sat down with him. Frank confronted Jason.

Frank then told Jason that we know he has been lying and using us, our families, and the Burning Community for the past 2 and a half years.

Jason denied the allegations at first. When Frank told jason what information we had uncovered, Jason went silent.

This is when Jason shut down and was emotionless. He sat and listened as frank explained that Jason was to give back the cellphone that we bought him, the silver ring that i gave him (one of my late grandmother's rings), and another personal item.
He explained to jason that there is to be no retaliation, and that jason is to not hurt or take advantage of our family, friends, or anyone in the burning community again. We let him go, with the knowledge that if he does try to do this again to anyone else, or tried to harm anyone or their property, that we would take criminal and civil action against him.

We felt it best to give him a way out that was peaceful and quiet. Neither frank, nor our friends that he has used, want to get involved in a nasty legal battle with anyone, but Jason was informed that if it comes to that, we will.

We are informing the community of Jason's deception. We are going to set up a website explaining all of this in more detail. It should be up within the next two weeks. In the meanwhile, here is a picture of him.

I am heart broken, and very depressed and numb at the same time. I'm tired.
the man that i thought was my best friend, was not.

I would like to take this moment to apologise to all of you for not seeing Jason for what he was, and for allowing him to take advantage of this beautiful community that we have.

If you have anymore questions, please email me.

Sincerely,
Maredith Suchomel

DJs and Rampagers needed next weekend!

For our 30 hour codeathon!
we'll have great events, food and drink every few hours, and we need people to help out and have fun!

I know there's a lot going on, ya'll.
And I know last year a couple of people didn't have the chance to spin as much as they wanted to.

So, I'm getting fewer people involved this year, and making sure that DJs only play around meals and events, when there are people there to appreciate your musical musings.

Here's the slots I have open: (WE NEED DJs and PARTICIPANTS for these!)
Saturday 4/21
8pm: Superhero rampage during dinner (need some super music here)
Midnight: Martini rampage with evening gowns (not too loud, as we pissed off some neighbors last time)
Sunday 4/22
Noon: Nuclear Taco Brunch (dunno. I'm sure someone can get inspired by this.

You will get food and/or drink and some great entertainment!

Sets will be 1.5-2 hours. There will be people. There will be video documentation. We still have some good shots from our video from last years event up on YouTube!

So, anyone interested in spinning a bit?
Thanks!

Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Mark Twain and Mary Shelly grew up in a time without computers, space-age plastics, or jet propulsion. Electricity was a fledgling enterprise, there were no trans-continental flights, and the moon seemed an impossible dream away. The major technological powers at the turn of the last century were steam, clockwork, and spring-propelled gadgets. They created futures then that would affect peoples' view of what should be for the rest of the century. This event will be an homage to their visions.

There was a man, a young man of good heart and character, and he had a bus that he loved. The bus was the shiny yellow and black apple of his eye, and their love was complete. He veritably lived inside of her, caressing her ample bumpers and buying her all manners of distilled waters and fancy spray paints.

And she loved him too; she loved him as strongly as a bus could love a man, that tall (10 feet) long legged (35 feet) 19,000 lb lady from Hayward, and things were good.

She was a comely bus, old fashioned values and smog, and was blessed by the lord with the gift of turbo, a lovely tress of curly cast iron that adorned her intake manifiold like a jewel in a Princess' tiara. It was their pride and her joy.

And the man also possessed one thing of great sentimental and personal value: a classic turbo boost sphygomometer given to him by his grandfather, a toxic filled graduated glass and brass mercury tube of wonderful complexity that he would lovingly plumb into his beloved when he wanted to see her smile. On sundays they would go to the park and he would gently lift her covers one by one, and there they would sit, whiling away the hours in the joy that only lovers share.

The couple was poor, and didn't drink the finest Rotella, nor could afford Michelins on the table except during special occasions. And then one year, the Saint Valentine's Day holiday approached, and they were both left in a quandary, how could this poor bus and man properly show their love on this special occasion?

Finally February 14th arrived, and after a hard day at the yard, the man came home to find his beloved bride sitting, parked near the one ton, behind the trailer, near the stack of pallets where he stored the brake drums and the power steering pumps, with tears/condensation in her headlights, but still shining the most lumenous of glows towards her chosen seat taker. And the man excitedly approached her, cleverly concealing a package from his beloved's low beams.

(break for commercial)

(Scene returns to idyllic backyard full of bus parts and Japanese and American pickups)

"Look my dear" he cried, "I have the finest of gifts for the bus that has been my veritable foundation of transportation for so many wonderful years." And from under his cloak, he produced a box. And there, inside the box was a lovely air heat exchanger from Cummins in Paris, painted beautiful flat black and glowing with a non reflective dullness that shone like the night. (with all necessary connectors and fasteners, and a roll of pink teflon tape)

"Oh my Goodness", she screamed in joy, "how could you ever have brought to me such a precious and costly gift my love?" She began to sigh, and with tears now welling up in her turn signals, she said "We are but a poor couple, rich in maintenance but with a limited parts budget..."

"Well" he replied, "my love for you springs internal, just like your fuel lines, and I confess I sold the turbo boost gage to get the lovely part. but it is OK, we can do it by ear my sweet, love can conquer any vaccuum problem."

And then he spotted a splendidly wrapped box sitting on the dash. "Is that for me my love?" he asked. "A gift from the bus whose broad hips and leaf spring suspension has seen me thru my longest travels and darkest hours... I can't wait to open it!"

He carefully separated the twine, removed the paper, and gently lifted the lid off the box. And there inside was a 3/16" thru 7/8" SAE and metric adapter set for classic sphygamometers, lovingly hand chromed from Taiwan.

And then tears began to well up in his eyes, as he walked, slowly, to the side (driver's side, door behind the radiator door) of his beloved, and lifted her skirts gently for the thousandth time.

For he knew the truth already........ . . . there in place of her lovely turbo was a simple metal plate, her chestnut colored curl now nothing more than a 5 X 8 piece of aluminum or cast or pot metal or something, (it had paint on it) and her flowing manifolds had been shorn to the scalp.

And as they looked at each other, and felt the love and tender mercies that only a long time committed driver and machine can hold dear, and nurture thru the years,-- there was peace, and then they drove, hand in wheel, down to Flying J for a quiet, intimate fill.

And life was good, and love had flourished and flew and soared for a brief minute on God's Green Earth.

("The Gift of the Turbi", a holiday classic)
available on CD and cassette

Looking for hip hop dj that can spin old school gangsta rap

I have a terrific, secret idea for a theme party in January. I have thrown two other parties using this theme this past year that have been pretty successful, about 200 attending.

I'm looking for a dj that can spin mostly west coast stuff, Dre, Snoop, 2Pac, NWA, some east coast like Biggie, and 80s dance music influenced hip hop like Digital Underground. No modern stuff, basically nothing after 1996.

If you're interested, send me a message and I'll tell you the theme idea. You may not like it. In fact, you might hate it. Then again, you might think it's totally awesome.

Cosmic Meadows - Saturday, August 12th - meteor shower watching campout - Marc Suarez, Nobody, Thump, kRISQUE, Klapton, Slum^Munky, Damitri, Vestwebber, Comanche Cody, Disintegration Window, and more

eXtremeUnderground presents:

Cosmic Meadows: A magical night of music, meteors, and mayhem
Saturday August 12, 2006
10 pm - 8 am

psytrance / breaks / electro / hard trance / downtempo / jazz / folk / hip hop / psy rock / and more...

August 12th marks the peak of the Perseid meteor shower - one of the most spectacular celestial displays of the year. To celebrate this magical night, we have put together a very special meteor watching party. Bring your favorite blanket, sit back, and watch the sky fall while listening to cutting edge psytrance, breaks, electro, and hard trance on the main stage. If you're feeling a more relaxed vibe, Chill Room Chill provides soothing, organic sounds in the downtempo area with live bands and dj's playing folk, jazz, intelligent hip hop, downtempo, psychedelic rock, and more.

In order to see the sky properly, we have secured a beautiful 115 acre private venue near Bastrop (about 35 minutes from downtown Austin), well outside of the city's bright lights. Feel free to bring a tent, and stay as long as you like on Sunday. Be sure not to miss the most amazing event of the summer, and we'll see you on the dancefloor.

---------------------

Main Stage - psytrance/electro/breaks/hard trance

• James "Nobody" Meadows • Mistical Productions/Astral Tribe • Dallas, TX (psytrance) •

If anyone could be dubbed the godfather of Texas psy trance, it would have to be James "Nobody" Meadows. One of the top psy DJ's in Texas for over 12 years, James has been key in pushing the sound to the "mainstream" crowd. He was a founding member of the seminal production company Astral Tribe, and their famous full moon renegades. Eventually, Astral Tribe joined forces with the production company that was to prove exactly what psy could accomplish in Texas - Universal Mind Productions. James later joined up with Mistical Productions, where he resides today. Mr. Meadows can work the decks like no other, taking the crowd exactly where they want to go, exactly where they need to be. He mixes cutting edge new sounds alongside the classics, seamlessly moving from vinyl to cd and back again. James is also known for his genre-bending, and has a strong following not only among the psy scene, but the house crowd as well. As anyone who's seen him can attest, his sets are not to be missed.

For booking contact vurpin@gmail.com .

Check out his latest mix:

"Behind Closed Doors" - http://www.mistprodonline.com/toons/jamesmeadows-behindcloseddoors.mp3

• Thump • Universal Mind • Austin, TX (psytrance) •

Thump has been involved in the psytrance sound and a vital part of the Texas psy community since the mid '90s. His style gravitates around soaring peaks and beautiful valleys with a solid emphasis on ass shaking grooves. Though an extremely talented DJ, he is best known for his work with the legendary Universal Mind productions, and has thrown some of the most memorable psy events in Texas. Luckily for us, he has moved back to Texas after living in San Diego for the last couple of years, and is totally pumped about playing for the home crowd again - get ready for a wild, wild ride.

• Klapton • Mistical Productions/Optiphonic • Dallas, TX (psytrance) •

Klapton is one of the most popular psytrance DJs in Dallas, and a cornerstone of Mistical Productions. His sound ranges from soothing progressive psy to night time stormers of the old school style with the new school sound. In addition to being one of the leading deco artists in Texas under the moniker Optiphonic, we hear he's starting to dabble in production. Will MistProd have another live act soon? Only time will tell. His powerful and uplifting sunrise sets are not to be missed for any reason, and this will be no exception.

If you haven't heard Klapton yet, check out these mixes:

"Passive Aggressive" - http://www.mistprodonline.com/toons/passiveaggressive.html

"In Passing" - http://www.mistprodonline.com/toons/passing.html

"Over Influenced" - http://www.mistprodonline.com/toons/over.html

• Marc Suarez • Wildstyle Phanatiks • Corpus Christi, TX (hard trance) •

DJing since 1997, Marc is one of the top acts in his home town, and regularly gigs all over the state. He has opened for artists ranging from Ludacris to DJ Fuse, and has played alongside more Texas artists than we have room to list. Though his style includes tech house, techno, tech trance, prog trance, and breakbeats, he's going to be laying down a special hard trance set for us that will leave you with knees weak and lungs burning. In addition to his undisputed skills as a master of the ones and twos, Marc has also been in the studio working on his own material, as well as a collaboration with Electropoet.

You can expect to hear some of his brand spankin' new, unreleased material during his set, but in the meantime, you can hear both his mixes and his original material here:

http://profile.imeem.com/C_UUQ

• kRISQUE • kPROD • Austin, TX • 100% original hardware live pa (electro/breaks) •

Born and rai
